ECOWEEK 2015 in Thessaloniki - Successfully completed!
With more than 200 participating architects, landscape architects, designers and scientists on nanotechnology building materials, and 13 workshops on sustainable design, addressing challenges in the city of Thessaloniki from waste recycling and reuse in construction, sustainable upgrade of an existing public school, building refugee shelters in a former army base, creating innovative signage from recycled newspapers for the City Hall, addressing the needs of the homeless of the city, re-observing and intervening in different parts of the city - for example, the HELEXPO exhibition grounds, the old train station, 3is Septemvriou street, and others, and a workshop group drafting preliminary plans for a much-needed sustainable ski resort in Vasilitsa. ECOWEEK 2015 in Thessaloniki, Greece - First 3-d Printed Violin Performed
ECOWEEK 2015 in Thessaloniki opened on Monday 2 November with the attendance of more than 200 participants and experts from Greece, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Germany, Spain, Kosovo, and Liechtenstein. Together with lectures on good practices examples from around Europe, the film 'The Secret Life of Materials' was shown and a surprise performance of the first 3-d printed violin, based on nanotechnology, was performed by Greek violinist Konstantinos Pavlakos (photo). ECOWEEK keynote speaker award-winning architect Francoise Helene Jourda passes away on 31 May 2015 Architect Francoise-Helene Jourda was born in 1955 in Lyon, and passed away in May 31, 2015. She was a longstanding active proponent to sustainable and responsible Architecture. Francoise Helene was best known for her longstanding commitment to a respectful constructive approach to economic, social, environmental and human sustainability. Her recent projects included the garden city model in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) and the rehabilitation of the Halle Pajol in Paris XVIII. Francoise Helene was a keynote speaker at ECOWEEK in several occasions in conferences around the world, sharing her work, knowledge and inspiring young professionals. ECOWEEK & HIT: Ecological Gardens in public schools and Community Centers
The ECOWEEK GREENHOUSE and 15 Holon Institute of Technology 3rd year Interior and Industrial Design students, just completed a semester of design, planning, logistics and implementation of small to medium scale interventions in public schools and community centers in Holon. The projects were implemented - partially or fully - with the students and the local community. The projects included an ecological garden at the Maginim Elementary School, community yards at the Neot Shoshanim and Neot Rachel Community Centers in Holon, and the furnishings for the sustainability mobile unit garden at Ramat Israel Community Center in Tel Aviv. Copenhagen: 17 ECOWEEK projects chosen to be realized in Northwest area!
NEWS from KEA - School of Design and Technology: The President of the Local Committee of the Northwest area of Copenhagen, Alex Heick, announced that the Municipality of Copenhagen has decided to use 17 of the ECOWEEK solutions (out of 26) in the realization of the projects! The projects include: apartment block pathways, climate change adaptation, active gardens and urban farming, a new park in Emaljehaven, environmentally aware playgrounds, therapy gardens, a street market (image to left, group 2.8), new bike sheds, a new car park, the reuse of an abandoned office building, rainwater draining, and a 'green' extension of Karen's house. Greece: Improving the Public School Canteens in Trikala, Volos, Kavala, and Ioannina is the first phase of a project to improve the conditions, design and content (i.e. food served) of the canteens in Greece, undertaken by Maria Seitopoulou of CO2 Green Office in Athens. The first phase of the project was completed by the GREENHOUSE team in Athens - Eleni Ziova and Nikos Vandoros - with the brief help of Melpomeni Vyzika. The team made an extensive survey of the existing canteens, and proposed new designs (and often new locations) for the canteens, based on the requirements of the Ministries in Greece and the principles of sustainable design.

Holon: Golda Public School gets garden overhaul!
NEWS from ECOWEEK Israel: Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) Design students in collaboration with the ECOWEEK GREENHOUSE completed the remodelling of the Golda Public School vegetable garden. The garden was redesigned by the students, complete with gravel path, new planting area, and new wooden furniture for student outdoor activity - which the students built themselves. The project was completed in collaboration between HIT, ECOWEEK, and the Municipality of Holon. The team of students included students of Interior Design, Industrial Design and Communication Design. For the first time in Italy! ECOWEEK 2011 in Milano took place in September 12-18, and the theme was 'Urban Communities and 'Green' Architecture', involving professionals from Italy, Denmark and Greece who led one-week intense 'green' design workshops on Urban sustainability, social sustainability, new building sustainable design, existing building sustainable design, and the merging of 'green' Architecture and design.

ECOWEEK welcomes the cooperation with AAO PROJECT in Athens, Greece June 8 - July 31, 2011.
Following on the first international Conference of the ÁÁÏ project: Ethics / Aesthetics, held at the Athens School of Fine Arts, the six Academic Workshops currently under way and Athens Here and Now with interactive works in downtown Athens, the ÁÁÏ project organizes a second international Conference, a main exhibition and two parallel events at the Pireos St Annex of the Benaki Museum. The first conference explored ethics and aesthetics as a broader platform in terms of its theoretical foundation and the spatial translations of this relationship in the new spatial and curatorial practices, in artworks and in architectural, urban and topological applications. The second Conference, to be held on June 6 & 7, 2011 at the amphitheater of the Benaki Museum, Pireos St Annex, will present the projects of the participants in the main exhibition, the inventive strategies they adopted and their works' media and objectives in an attempt to assess today's pressing social and ecological needs and the ways they are addressed.
The main exhibition of the ÁÁÏ project: Ethics / Aesthetics will be held at the Benaki Museum, Pireos St Annex from June 8 to July 31, 2011. The exhibition is structured to explore the impact of the new participatory processes on the field of spatial practices and the points of convergence and differentiation between aesthetic form and ideological background with regard to self-reference and identity. ECOWEEK & de|zine ECOWEEK welcomes a new collaboration with de|zine magazine starting in 2011. de|zine is a new publication dedicated to modern Architecture, innovative Design and Art in all its creative expressions. Having a common starting point to the enhancement and promotion of issues of ecological interest in the fields of design practice, but to encourage social debate around issues of ecology and sustainable urban development, de|zine assists in the actions and initiatives by ECOWEEK, promoting - through its pages and through the internet platform (www.dezine.gr) - the activity in the field and by being an active participant in fostering a fruitful dialogue in the field of ecology and green economics. The ultimate goal of this cooperation is to inform and raise awareness, particularly young people around environmental protection and sustainable integrated development, the emergence of architects, designers and ideas mentioned in bioclimatic design, landscape architecture and promote ecological building in Greece, and to familiarize young scientists, professionals and the public with the philosophy and developments in sustainable design.

Thank you for joining us on Friday June 4 at the ECOWEEK / Athens Direct Lounge. At the presentation architect E. Messinas, ECOWEEK founder and Chairman, gave a short presentation of the ECOWEEK 2010 program in the Middle East, the activity of ECOWEEK, and spoke extensively about 'green' buildings: how to make a new house 'green' but also how to make a 'green' retrofit to an existing house. ECOWEEK & BRUNO ZEVI Foundation
ECOWEEK started a collaboration with the BRUNO ZEVI FOUNDATION in Rome within the framework of a common effort to educate young architects and architecture students in Frugal and Ecological Architecture, and in an effort to bring together students of different religions, cultures and backgrounds, towards intercultural exchange and cooperation in 'green' community projects in the Middle East. The ECOWEEK 2010 Young Architects Forum in the Middle East to take place in July 25 - August 1, 2010 is the first program that ECOWEEK and the Bruno Zevi Foundation are collaborating.
ECOWEEK & EUNIC: STUDENT ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION OF IDEAS theme: Lanscape, Environment and Architecture: Designing the Park for Environmental Awareness "A. Tritsis", Ilion, Attica
ECOWEEK starts a collaboration with EUNIC - the European Union of Cultural Institutes - the British Council, the Goethe Institute and the Institut Francais d'Athenes, towards a graduate student competition to re-design the urban Park for Environmental Awareness "A. Tritsis" in Athens. The planning and implementation of the competition is a collaboration between the three EUNIC members, namely the British Council, the Goethe Institute and the Institut Francais d'Athenes, together with the Ornithological Society, the Architecture School of the National Technical University of Athens, and ECOWEEK. A project to promote sustainable design, interdisciplinary design, and the merging of urban space with nature.

ECOWEEK & CARTECO
ECOWEEK started a collaboration with CARTECO, a leading company in architectural solutions and materials of high quality in Greece; this collaboration will focus in the implementation of passive solar architecture and ecological building by young architects and graduate students of Architecture. CARTECO will collaborate and support the international conference and workshops ECOWEEK 2010: Ecology + Community + Architecture scheduled to take place in March 2010 in Athens, Greece.

ECOWEEK & International Society for Arcadia
In May 2009 ECOWEEK started a collaboration program with the International Society for Arcadia - International Society for the Study and the Utilization of the Arcadian World Legacy. This collaboration will focus on programs for environmental awareness, good practice, exchange of know-how and educational programs on environmental and cultural awareness.
