Marta
Pozo Gil, Architect |
MVRDV, Holland
Marta Pozo Gil is an architect and licensed BREEAM assessor.
She has been working with MVRDV since 2007 where, in addition
to her role as a Project Leader, Marta leads MVRDV's Sustainability
Department. By forming environmental strategies and energy-efficiency
guidelines for each design process, Marta ensures a high standard
is maintained for all of MVRDV's projects.
Marta has been involved in the conceptualizing and execution
of projects of various scales. She is currently leading the
design team for Montecorvo Eco City in Logrono, Spain. MVRDV's
award-winning competition design (2008) envisions the construction
of a sustainable neighbourhood of 3000 units of social housing,
a school and public facilities. To achieve a CO2-neutral footprint,
100% of the required energy will be generated on-site by means
of wind and solar power, complemented by a bioclimatic layout,
recycling facilities, reuse of greywater, etc. The first phase
of the project is scheduled to break ground in 2013.
Marta is also working on a dense urban masterplan in Bordeaux,
France - an ambitious "eco-quartier" where all energy consumed
by the masterplan will be produced on-site. The 35ha site, which
will redevelop former military grounds, extends Bordeaux's city
center across the Garonne river and provide 3200 homes, offices
and urban amenities. MVRDV's masterplan carefully respects the
existing urban fabric and creates an intimate character for
the new neighbourhood. It is referred to as a 'capillary city';
a contemporary update of the historic European city - combining
history, human scale and individualism with density and sustainability.
The masterplan's buildings have high energy performance ratings,
and ensure natural sunlight, even in the winter. Other sustainability
considerations include: the masterplan's water cycle, waste
management and material selection.
When realised, Zac Bastide Niel will be one of the largest zero-energy
neighbourhoods in the world, and is an excellent example of
how new sustainable districts can improve the quality of life
in our cities. The project is regarded as the most significant
contemporary urban intervention in Bordeaux. Construction is
to start in 2014.
Marta has received degrees from Universidad Politecnica de Valencia,
Spain (2001) and TU Berlin, Germany (2004). She regularly lectures
and has won several awards.

Nicola
Delon, Architect |
ENCORE HEUREUX, France
Born in Constantine (Algeria), Nicola Delon grew up in South
West of France. He studied architecture in Toulouse, University
of Montreal / Mc Gill University, Canada, and Paris la Villette.
Nicola established ENCORE HEUREUX with Julien Choppin in 2001.
Nicola has lectured and has exhibited his work in France and
abroad (USA, Canada, Mongolia, Brazil, Romania). Nicola has
taught at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture (Paris).
ENCORE HEUREUX was founded in 2001 by Nicola Delon and Julien
Choppin. From 2002 to 2005, they realized ephemeral installations,
with tight budgets and numerous restraints. In parallel they
developed graphic works (summary images, websites, graphic design)
aimed at architects. Since 2005 they participated in architectural
competitions and worked on studies in association with Patrick
Bouchain. Their work has been published and was the subject
of several publications and has been presented in works, exhibitions
and conferences in France and abroad. In 2006 ENCORE HEUREUX
won the "Nouveaux Albums de la Jeune Architecture" awarded
by the French Ministry of Culture for young architects. In 2009,
ENCORE HEUREUX won the competition for the construction of the
municipal museum for the town of Suresnes; participated in the
Ordos 100 project for experimental housing estates in Inner
Mogolia (China) - organized by Herzog et De Meuron, and were
invited by the National Art Museum of China, to design a prototype
of emmergency shelters. Recently they completed a floating building
for a cultural organisation in Paris, a research and innovation
center for Saint -Gobain company and a cinema complex in south
of France.
ENCORE HEUREUX work is centered around creating comfort, inventing
new uses and inspiring wonder. Seizing opportunities, making
excuses and observing situations are some of the strategies
to conceptualize projects in architecture, art and design. For
them, ENCORE HEUREUX rhymes with demand and lucidity, optimism
and commitment. www.encoreheureux.org

Poland
MEDUSA GROUP was established in 1997 by architects: Przemo Lukasik
and Lukasz Zagala. We are multidisciplinary studio involved
in architecture, urban planning, graphic and industrial design
projects. The studio cooperates with professional engineering
companies and takes active part in realization of investments
as author's superviser and substiture investor. We realize our
projects as a general design studio. Our office is in Bytom's
city center at Jozefczaka 35 street located within our own development
- an abandoned warehouse (1400 sqm) which we renovated and adapted
for office purposes. The office occupies the attic floor of
the building which, thanks to the absence of partitions and
the white-painted walls and ceilings, provides a very roomy
office space for over 20 people who work there, along with many
possibilities for formal and informal meetings. We have partner
offices in major Polish cities, i.e. in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Lodz,
Krakow and Gdansk. This enables us to efficiently realize projects
on the whole territory of our country.
